Srinagar, October 01 (KNO) : Dukhtaran-e-Millat on Monday strongly condemned the extension in judicial custody of party chairperson, Syedah Aasiyeh Andrabi, General Secretary, Nahida Nasreen and press secretary, Sofi Fehmeeda by NIA special court in New Delhi. In a statement issued to (KNO), DeM spokesperson, Rifat Fatima, said that "the District and Session Judge, NIA special court has extended the judicial remand of the trio by 30 more days."

"Today’s hearing was held through video conferencing and the next date for hearing has been slated for November 1," she said, adding that it is highly condemnable that in each trial in the court, the only decision taken is extending of remand. “Andrabi is suffering from multiple ailments and an extended stay inside the jail will put her life into grave danger,” Rifat added. She said that since July 6 when the trio was taken by NIA into its custody, the only decision that is being made is to extended the custody. “Initially, the trio was remanded to NIA custody for 10 days and then taken into judicial remand for 20 days at Mandoli jail and after shifting the leaders to Tihar jail, the remand was extended upto September 7 and then upto October 1.

Today, in yet another hearing, the judicial custody was extended,” she added. Rifat said that in reality, authorities want to keep extended her stay behind bars, which is a highly condemnable act. She further welcomed the recent statement regarding Kashmir issue by Minister of External Affairs of Pakistan, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in the UN General Assembly. Besides other things, Qureshi, during his speech, had called for a resolution of Kashmir issue besides highlighting the Indian atrocities in Kashmir at the world forum. He had said that the unresolved dispute is impacting achieving durable peace between India and Pakistan and remains a blot on the conscience of humanity. Rifat while praising Qureshi for his statement said that Kashmiris expect an unflinching support from the Government and people of Pakistan. “So far, the Imran Khan-led government has expressed a commendable approach as far as Kashmir issue is concerned.

It is a welcome sign because it is imperative for both India and Pakistan to understand that peace in the sub-continent is impossible until Kashmir issue remains unresolved,” she said The DeM spokesperson said that Pakistan must work on priority basis to resolve the Kashmir issue to put a stop to the genocide on innocents in Kashmir by Indian forces. “It is moral as well as religious duty of the Muslims of Pakistan to make serious efforts to resolve this issue. Pakistanis must remember that Kashmiris are in chains, so we aren’t able to do much but Pakistanis are free, so it becomes a religious duty to make efforts to free us from the chains of slavery,” she added.(KNO)
