Srinagar, October 08 (KNO) : As the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections commenced, a complete shutdown was observed on Monday in the Valley against the polls, a call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. According to (KNO) correspondent, all the shops and business establishments remained closed while as the traffic was also off the roads throughout the day.
JRL had appealed people to boycott the elections and also observe a complete shutdown on this day to protest against the commencement of polls. The forces were also deployed in strength across the Valley in view of the elections. Besides, trains services from north Kashmiri’s Baramulla district to Banihal in Jammu region was also suspended by the authorities. Officials said that the services were suspended as ‘security reasons’.
Meanwhile, the mobile internet services speed was also reduced in the Valley in view of the elections. The speed was reduced since the wee hours of this morning. However in northern districts, 4g internet services were restored soon after the polls culminated.It is worth to mention here that the government offices also remained closed in wake of the official holiday ordered by the state government on polling days here.(KNO)
