Ensure anti-militancy operations don’t disrupt mood for Panchayat polls : Rajnath tells security top brass | KNO

Srinagar, October 23 (KNO) : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday reviewed security situation with top officials of Home Ministry, Intelligence agencies, Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) heads here in Srinagar and discussed overall security scenario of the state especially Kashmir valley. Reliable source said that Rajnath after expressing his gratitude over the improvement in overall situation and also the local militant recruitment, conveyed to the heads of security agencies to launch anti-militancy operations in a way that the mood for the upcoming panchayat polls commencing from November 17 is not disrupted. One of the top officials of Government told KNO that the meeting was chaired by Union Home minister Rajnath Singh here in the afternoon, in which situation of Jammu and Kashmir came up for threadbare discussions. “The meeting was attended by the, Home Secretary Rajiv Guaba, Governor S P Malik and the heads of, Intelligence Bureau, BSF, CRPF, police and other top officers of MHA,” sources said. They said that during the meeting, the Union Home Minister told the heads of various security heads that “anti militancy operations should be conducted in a way that the mood for the upcoming panchayat polls is not disturbed,” the sources said. “During the meeting, the Home minister sought reports from the participants about the security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir. The senior officials representing different security agencies briefed the meeting about the required steps to be taken to maintain law and order and ensure the security Plan in the state,” sources said. “Security arrangements for the upcoming Panchayat polls were discussed threadbare. The Home Minister also took stock of preparedness for the infiltration and militant activities Home Minister expressed satisfaction with alertness and bravery displayed by the security personnel in foiling the attacks by the militants. “An advisory has been issued to all para-military forces to maintain extraordinary vigil on their security establishments in Jammu and Kashmir including those located close to the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), to guard against possible attack in view of the Intelligence inputs, which suggested that more such attacks can’t be ruled out,” sources said. According to sources, senior officers of Home Ministry, CAPFs and Intelligence agencies gave detailed briefing to the Union Home Minister on the internal security as well as the situation prevailing along the borders, where it has been witnessed ceasefire violations in the past four months. “I was told that the situation has shown improvement over the past four months and that the local militant recruitment has also gone down,” he said in a press conference after the security review meeting. Sources said that Home Minister also took a review of various developmental projects.(KNO)
