Schools, colleges closed, Internet snapped in Srinagar

Srinagar, October 24 (KNO) : Encounter erupted in Soothu Kothair area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar on Wednesday night. Reports reaching (KNO) said that two militants have been killed at Soothu Kothair after gunfight erupted on Wednesday night. As per sources the slain militants has been identified as Sabzar Sofi of Sangam, Anantnag and Asif Ahmad Gojri of Anantnag. But official confirmation is yet to be ascertained. Police officials told that the security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar at Wanbal J/D of P/S Nowgam, launched a cordon and search operation today morning based on credible input about the presence of the militants During search operation, terrorists fired upon the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter 02 terrorists were neutralised. The identity of the killed terrorists is being ascertained. Pertinently the SOP was followed during the encounter and no collateral damage took place during the encounter. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Citizens are once again requested not to enter the encounter site as such an area can prove dangerous due to uncleared explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitised and cleared of all the explosives materials if any. Police has registered a case and investigation has been initiated. Meanwhile officials told (KNO) that all schools and colleges closed in district Srinagar today. Internet service also snapped in Srinagar after for precautionary measures.(KNO)
