Kupwara, October 24 (KNO) : Authorities in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district have miserably failed to construct a bridge in Sunnarpora Holi area that connects over 400 families. The residents of the area told KNO that the authorities here have failed to construct a bridge over the years now, causing hardships to the residents, thus forcing them to walk by foot. Though the work on the bridge was started 15 years ago, but it is still awaiting completion, the residents said.
Over the years, scores of men and women have sustained injuries and fractures while crossing over the stream on a wooden bridge over Nalie Hudh stream, in absence of this bridge. “Few years ago, an old age men was drown to death in this stream. Such accidents could have been avoided if this bridge had been completed on time,” the locals said. The lone bridge in the area connects several villages including Daresun, Meelyal, Guzriyal, Reshigund and others. “The non-completion of this bridge is giving a tough time to the villagers especially when it rains or increase in the water level of the stream. We have to pass our vehicles through this Nallah, whenever there is rise in water level we have to keep the cars at the main road and walk through this stream, the water level did not allow us to pass vehicles through this stream,” Javaid Ahmad, a local of Lone Hari said.We approached the offices of the concerned officials several times but nothing has been done in this regard, residents said, appealing the authorities to fulfill the genuine demands of villager’s at an earliest. Meanwhile, the concerned officials could not be materialized for the comments.(KNO)
