Valley observes 'black day', shuts on JRL’s call | KNO

Srinagar, October 27 (KN0) : A complete shutdown was Saturday observed across the Valley on Saturday to mark ‘black day and occupational day’ against the landing of forces in Kashmir on October 27, 1947. The shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and had also appealed people to observe this day as “black day and Occupation day”. All the shops, business establishments and petrol pumps remained closed while as the vehicular movement was also thin on the roads throughout the day.Besides, a huge contingent of police and paramilitary were deployed in Old city areas of Srinagar today since the wee hours of this morning.Reports informed that clashes erupted between youth and forces in Ghat area of Khudwani in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district following the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area. Reports reaching KNO that at least eleven youth sustained injuries during the clashes. Meanwhile, the train services from Baramulla to Banihal were suspended today.Railway officials said that the train services from Baramulla to Banihal were suspended for ‘security reasons’ today.(KNO)
