The workshop was conducted by a Google-certified Trainer of the Google News Initiative (GNI), Faisul Yaseen. The workshop was conducted in order to sensitize the students about the tools available to detect fake news.“In the era of Facebook delivery of news, and in competing speeds it becomes mandatory for journalists to keep the tools handy in order to tell fake news from real news,” he said. Coordinator of the department Faruq Masudi threw the workshop open and thanked Yaseen, an MERC alumnus for conducting the workshop. Interacting with the participants, Yaseen said, “Today’s journalists need to work harder than those who spread fake news. Fake news sharers have no accountability while journalists have to be responsible.”A practical session was held in the computer laboratory of the department after the presentation session. The students learned to detect fake images and videos in the process.
