Bandipora, November 05 (KNO) : The failure of administration to arrange a garbage dumping facility here has evoked widespread resentment among the locals as heaps of domestic and market waste are lying scattered across the Bandipora town. Locals said that Bandipora town has been turned into a garbage dump with heaps of garbage present on the roadside in many areas including the main market due to the non-availability of any proper garbage dumping site. According to locals, the garbage being collected by municipal committee Bandipora (MCB) from various areas is being dumped along the Gulshan Chowk here that emanates foul smell making the pedestrian movement difficult. “Dogs are always seen in many areas as they keep searching for food in these dumps, posing a threat to locals particularly students,” said a local resident. “The authorities have turned a blind eye toward this issue. Many a time authorities do not lift garbage from the place even in the evenings,” they said. “The garbage emanates foul smell and has become a health hazard for the people. It also attracts dogs, cattle and insects,” a commuter said. “A primary school and a Darul Uloom lies near to this dumping site. The movement of kids has become difficult. Moreover, the stink these waste material produce disturbs the entire locality especially the kids of these institutions,” the local said. When contacted, Executive Officer Municipal Committee Bandipora Wali Mohammad said that “We are looking for a suitable land for garbage dumping for the town, however we haven’t been able to identify it due to some issues,” he said, adding that after dumping the garbage at a particular place in Bandipora they lift it every day for its disposal near Sumbal area.(KNO)
