Srinagar, November 09 (KNO) : A Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant was Friday killed while a policeman sustained injuries in an encounter that ensued following a search operation in Dar-Ganiegund village of Tral in Awantipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Police said that a Pakistani militant codenamed Anwar who was affiliated with JeM was killed in the gunfight with forces today at Tral.
"A cordon and search operation was launched today by Police and security forces in Dar-Ganiegund area of Tral in Awantipora based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area," police said, adding that as the search operation was going on, hiding militant fired upon the search party, which was retaliated, thus leading to an encounter. "In the encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter," police said, adding that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. "From the incriminating materials recovered, it is learnt that the slain militant is a Pakistani codenamed as Anwar who was affiliated with JeM," police said, adding that he was involved in attacks on security establishments and other civilian atrocities in the area. Moreover, one policeman has also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. "He is stated to be stable.
Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter," police said. Meanwhile, police urged people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. "People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any," police said.(KNO)
