Srinagar, November 19 (KNO) : Muhammad Iqbal Khanday, former Chief Secretary passed away on Monday at SK Isntitute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) after brief illness.The 1978 batch IAS officer Khanday held various positions in the state government before taking the top position.Khanday, held several key positions in his career, was also principal secretary to the former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. Meanwhile, various political parties and leaders expressed shock over his demise and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah condoled the demise of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday who passed away after brief illness in Srinagar on Monday morning. "Sorry to hear about the demise of Iqbal Khanday Sb. He was Chief Secretary in J&K & worked with me when I had the privilege of heading the government. My heartfelt condolences to his family & loved ones. Allah Jannat naseeb karey," Omar tweeted. Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Monday condoled the demise of  former chief secretary Muhammad Iqbal Khanday. The 1978-batch IAS officer passed away late last night at SKIMS Soura. In her condolence message,  Mehbooba mentioned that Mohammad Iqbal Khandey was a simple person easy to get along with and totally dedicated to his job. The Chief Minister appreciated the significant contribution of the officer to various departments of the state he has served during his tenure.  PDP President said in his death, the State Government has lost a dedicated officer and a generous human being. The former Chief Minister expressed her deep sympathies to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir has expressed profound grief over the sad demise of Iqbal Khanday Former Chief Secretary of J&K and conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family. In his condolence message, Mir as per a statement issued to KNO described Late. Khanday as a brilliant son of the State, who has contributed immensely to State and people as well. I have no words to express my grief over the sad demise of Former Chief Secretary, Mir said. He conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family and expressed solidarity with them. He also prayed for eternal peace to departed soul. Meanwhile, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of former chief secretary of the state Mohamad Iqbal Khanday.“In Khanday’s death, Jammu and Kashmir has lost a well wisher who spent all his life for the betterment of public. Throughout his career he worked tirelessly, honestly and with dedication for welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He worked against all odds and stood steadfast to serve the people of the state in most difficult times,” Tarigami said. He described his demise as a personal loss, saying his passing away has created a void in the state, which is difficult to fill up. “I express solidarity with the bereaved family.”The KAS officer's Association expressed grief over the sad demise of former Chief Secretary J&K State Mohammad Iqbal Khanday (IAS). In a condolence meeting convened by its President Tasaduq Hussain Mir today at Civil Secretariat Jammu, the Office bearers of the KAS Officers Association and various other officers attending the meeting expressed grief and shock on the demise of the veteran officer. While expressing deep felt condolences, the Association prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and forbearance to the bereaved family at this hour of grief.The President of the Association hailed the deceased as an officer of impeccable integrity, with deep sense of commitment towards the people of the State and said that his demise is an irreparable loss to the State. Chairman PDF and MLA Khansahib Hakeem Yaseen expressed his profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Iqbal Khanday former Chief Secretary J&K ( rtd.) Who breathed his last at his Srinagar residence early this morning. Hakeem said that Late Khanday was a great son of the soil, a brilliant and an intelligent IAS officer who significantly contributed to the state at administrative level. Paying tribute to Late Iqbal Khanday, Hakeem said " he was a man of principles and very kind and helpful to the poor.While conveying his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, Hakeem has prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was convened in Janta Dal United headquarters Rajbagh Srinagar today to mourn the demise of Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, former J&K Chief Secretary, who passed away in Srinagar this morning. JDU State President G.M Shaheen and other senior party leaders attended the condolence meeting remembered Iqbal Khandey for his administrative acumen and dynamism. “Our heart goes out to the family members of Iqbal Khandey Sahab, who in the later part of his life went through a personal tragedy of losing his son to an unfortunate road accident,” he said.(KNO)
