Srinagar, November 20 (KNO) : Unidentified gunmen here on Saturday shot dead a Geelani's close aide and injured wife injured in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Reports said that unidentified gunmen fired upon 'Hafiz Ullah Mir' at his home at Budhra area of Achabal. Mir was affiliated with Hurriyat (G) and was District president of Tehreeke Hurriyat. Reports reaching to KNO that this morning at around 11 a.m, Mir was standing next to his house and in the meantime three men came in the car. They alighted from the car and fired volley of bullets, he died on spot. Neighbourers of Mir said that as soon his wife saw Mir being shot by unknown gunmen, she ran and jumped over him in a bid to save him. She got drenched in the blood oozing out of the body of Mir,” they said.Family Sources said that, Mir was allegedly getting threat phone calls and mid-night knocks at his home located at Badroo Achabal. This triggered fear in the mind of Mir who fled from his home believing he might be called by the unknown people from whom he would get threats, they said. Police Version Police said in a Statement, that the militants barged inside the residential house of Hafizullah Mir at Budooda Achabal, Anantnag district and fired indiscriminately. In this incident, Hafizullah sustained critical gunshot wounds and was evacuated to a nearby hospital where he succumbed.” Mir was district president of the pro-freedom organization Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. The statement said that Mir’s wife also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the nearby hospital. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation in the matter, it added. Meanwhile, thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the funeral prayers of slain Hurriyat leader in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district. Eyewitness told TO KNO that thousands of people from various areas of the valley, especially from south Kashmir reached at the slain’s native village Budroo Achabal and participated in the funeral prayers of the slain leader.(KNO)
