Srinagar, November 26 (KNO): A complete shutdown was on Monday observed across the Valley to protest against the killing of 17 persons in last three days. The shutdown call was given by called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik against the recent killings. All the shops, business establishments, petrol pumps and other commercial establishments remained closed throughout the day while as the traffic was also thin on the roads. Sources said that the attendance in government offices, schools and colleges were almost negligible as passenger vehicles were also off the roads. Besides, a huge contingent of police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads in Old city here to thwart any possible protest against the recent killings.Earlier, six militants, a civilian and an Army man were killed in the gunfight on Sunday that raged between forces and militants in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. Meanwhile, the railway authorities had also suspended the train services from Baramulla-Banihal here. Officials told KNO that the services were suspended as ‘security reasons’.(KNO)
