Srinagar, November 30 (KNO) : Even as the brisk voting was recorded in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district in the ULB and ongoing Panchayat polls, the Sever Lolab area of Kupwara district Thursday stayed away from the polls, alleging forces of vandalizing their properties during nocturnal raids and arresting two youth from the village.
Sever Lolab, a village in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district stayed away today to from exercising their franchise, alleging that forces of storming into their village during nocturnal raids on 15 November during which they arrested two local youth, vandalized property and resorted to Ariel firing. The villagers stayed away from polling to mark a protest against the forces.
The locals said that “with mutual cooperation between all the seniors and respected citizens of our village, we decided stay away from polls as mark of protest against the forces who stormed into the village and vandalized the public property.” Locals alleged that a local army unit barged into the village on 15 November who vandalizing the property, arrested two local youth on charges of stone pelting and restored to aerial firing at midnight.
They said that the locals later came out of their homes to protest against the arrest of two local youth by Army. The locals in the morning also held a protest against the Army unit and demanded immediate release of two local youth.(KNO)
