Srinagar, December 11 (KNO) : Nearly 30 years old bunkers that were established at Amira Kadal here was on Tuesday demolished by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). The SMC in the wee hours of this morning reached the spot and started demolishing the three bunkers at Amira Kadal here, which officials claim was the long pending demand of the people.
The bunker was constructed in the year 1992 during the onset of the militancy in the Valley. However, sources told KNO that the directions to remove the bunkers were given by the recently elected SMC Mayor, Junaid Azim Matoo who also visited the spot this morning.
Officials said that there are several plans to pursue in the future for the beautification of Srinagar City with regard to the making of Smart City. They said that the bunkers that are no needed would also be demolished in the near future. Meanwhile, Junaid Matoo in a tweet said that the place where bunkers have been demolished will be developed as parks.
He added that the park will be maintained by SMC and local Auqaf committee in unison. “All three bunkers at the end of Amira Kadal Bridge (towards HSH Street) have been demolished and the land cleared will be developed as a Park by SMC now and maintained in coordination with the local Dastageer Sahab (RA) Shrine Auqaf Committee,”Matoo tweeted.(KNO)
