Srinagar, January 18 (KNO) : Ahead of Republic Day, the militants on Friday went on a grenade throwing spree with three grenade hurling incidents in Srinagar, Shopian and Kakpora area of South Kashmir.
Suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a CRPF party near Ghanta Ghar in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar which exploded with a bang creating panic in the city center. However, no loss of life was reported while a vehicle suffered damage in the incident.
Later, a grenade was also hurled in Shopian on a police's Special Operation Group camp. Police said that the cases have been registered in both the cases and investigation has been started. Police further stated that no loss of life or property was reported in the twin attacks.
Later, in the evening, suspected militants also hurled a grenade towards police station Kakapora. Sources told KNO that grenade was followed by some gunshots. However no one was injured in the attack.
It’s pertinent to mention that militants on Thursday attacked policemen at Raj Bagh area of the city, leaving three cops including two traffic policemen injured. Security has been beefed up across valley as Republic nears its due date and police sources claim that militants do such attacks to create ‘fear among people’.(KNO)
