Srinagar, January 25 (KNO) : Former minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir and former MLA Rafiabad Yawar Dilawar Mir on Friday welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s decision of providing three per cent reservation to the Pahari community.
In a joint statement issued to KNO, the duo termed the government pronouncement a ‘historic decision’ that is aimed at socio-economic and educational empowerment of Pahari community in the state.
“This is a landmark decision taken by the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Satya Pal Malik Ji. We appreciate and welcome this decision of far reaching results for the upliftment of Pahari community,” they observed.
The duo said the Pahari community was neglected in terms of improvement in its social status and they had often raised their voice for redressal of their long pending demand.
“But as they say, it is late than never. The reservation granted to this community by giving assent to the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2014 providing reservation to Pahari community in Government jobs, the Governor has fulfilled a long pending demand of this community,” they remarked.
They further observed that by giving reservation to this tribe which was so far vulnerable to poverty, economic and social backwardness, the present dispensation in the state has taken an exemplary step to alleviate these problems.(KNO)
