Kupwara, January 31 (KNO): Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two persons and recovered 19 kilograms of brown sugar from their possession.
Police said that the duo were arrested in Kralpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, saying that the duo had been transporting huge consignment of about 19 Kilograms of Brown sugar.
“Two persons driving a sumo vehicle bearing registration number, Jk01R-4584, carrying the smuggled drugs from Pakistan to other parts of the valley were apprehended and a case under NDPSC, with FIR number, 2/2019, has been registered further investigation into the incident is on,” SSP Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar said.
He identified the duo as Zameer Ahmad Raina, son of Mohammad Israiel Raina, 28, and Reyaz Ahmad, son of Ab Qayoom, both residents of Amrohi Karnah.
Ambarkar said that the accused were driving a sumo vehicle and had placed the consignment in back light tyres of the vehicle.
Addressing a press conference, Ambarkar said that after gun and other ammunition, now Pakistan is disrupting the peace in Valley by transporting narcotics here.
However, he said that security agencies are working jointly to eliminate such practice from grassroots level and in future, they will involve youth to cooperate so that such practices will come to an end.
“Preliminary investigation into the case has revealed that the consignment was transported from Pakistan like they have been disrupting environment by provoking youth towards militancy,” he said.
Kupwara police is putting its efforts to eliminate the racket. “We seek involvement of Civil Society and other sections of the society to get in touch with therm so that such practices would come to an end,’ he added.(KNO)
