Srinagar, February 11 (KNO) : Fresh landslides have blocked the Srinagar-Jammu highway as men and machinery battled to remove the bottleneck over the only road connectivity of valley with rest of the States.
Officials told KNO that massive shooting stones erupted at Maroog area over the road that was also hit by a massive landslide as well. They said that the restoration work had cleared the block but shooting stones erupted again blocking the road and making it risky for any movement. “The shooting incidents are still continuing and we hope that if it stops in next few hours then the men and machinery will clear it but if it drags to night then operations will have to be halted,” they said.
The road clearance operation, he said, cannot be done during night hours. He said Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Div Com Kashmir, and IG traffic police had visited the road on Monday to take first hand assessment of the measures being taken. The official told KNO that on Sunday afternoon when some stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards Banihal from Ramban, massive landslide hit the area afterwards, closing the road again.
Srinagar-Jammu highway remained closed for the sixth straight day following the fresh spell of snowfall and snow avalanche that triggered slippery conditions of the road and also blocked the Jawahar Tunnel respectively.(KNO)
