Srinagar, February 19 (KNO) : Days after union home minister Rajnath Singh stated that civilian traffic would be halted for the smooth flow of convoy movement in Kashmir, the army today said that it was working on a people-friendly model to ensure civilian traffic movement is not halted for long hours.
“We are working out on a mode to ensure less hassles are caused to the civilians. A people friendly model will be in place so that less trouble is caused to the people,” said GoC 15 Corps, Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon in press conference.
On Thursday last a Jaish fidayeen Adil Ahmed Dar rammed an explosive laden car into a CRPF convoy at Lethpora in Pulwama resulting in the death of 40 CRPF men and injuries to two dozen others. The incident had prompted union home minister to visit Srinagar along with national security advisor Ajit Doval and home secretary Rajiv Gauba.
Singh while chairing a high level meeting in Srinagar announced that civilian traffic movement would be halted when there would be convoy movement on the roads. He, however, admitted that the move will result in the inconvenience to the people but sought cooperation from the civilians. Recently, a meeting was held at the police control room Srinagar where in the issue was discussed threadbare by the top brass of security.
“New features were added to the convoy moment and it was decided that most of the convoy moment will take place during evening and morning hours when there is less flow of civilian traffic movement,” an official told KNO.
