Kulgam, February 24 (KNO): Two unidentified militants were killed an encounter that broke out between forces and militants in Turigam village of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday. Official sources told KNO that two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter this afternoon. Massive clashes are happening in the area between protesters and government forces. A DSP ranking officer has been killed in the ongoing gun-battle. Locals told KNO that protesters including women clashes with forces and resorted to stone pelting on forces conducting the operation. "Forces responded with tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters," they said. They also claimed that announcements were made from mosques asking people to come out and protest. "Several protesters have been injured in the clashes," they claimed. The gunfight had broke out this afternoon in Kulgam village after forces launched search operations in the village following specific inputs about the presence of militants there. The search party was fired upon by the hiding militants during the search operation in the village, which was retaliated, thus leading to an encounter, they said. They added two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area, saying that operation was going on. However, they said two unidentified militants were killed while as the operation was going on. (KNO)
