Srinagar, March 01 (KNO) : A day after Centre announced ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, a socio-religious organisation, for five years, police swooped on the offices of JeI across Kashmir and sealed many of its offices.
According to KNO, on the direction of district magistrate Kupwara Ansul Garag, a joint team comprising police and civil administration on Friday late afternoon searched the District office of Jamaat-e-Islami at main town Kupwara and later sealed it. Officials told KNO, that, following the directions of district magistrate a joint team of Police and Civil administration landed at the District office of Jamaat-e-Islami and searched it and sealed.
While as police spokesperson based in Kupwara told KNO that, no FIR has been registered in this regard so far but, he said: “The District office of JeI was searched and later it was sealed by the orders of District magistrate". The joint team composed of, DySP Hq, Tehsildar and SHO Kupwara which sealed the district office of Jamaat-e-Islami, which will put an halt to all the functions of this office, he said.
District administration Bandipora also sealed office of Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir at Bagh area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora District.Sources told KNO that a police team led by DySP and SHO Bandipora along with revenue officials sealed the office.
The move comes following government of Delhi’s decision to ban the prominent socio-religious organisation, days after arresting scores of its leaders and activists in a massive crackdown. Pertinently Jamaat-e-Islami district President Bandipora Hafiz Muhammad Skindar Malik is under detention in Aragam Police Station.
Reports said clashes broke out in Pulwama, when police tried to seal the JeI office there. “Youth resorted to stone pelting when police tried to lock the JeI office in Pulwama, clashes were on till late evening,” the reports said.(KNO)
