Lolab gate thrown open after week-long closure | KNO

Handwara, March 07 (KNO) : After remaining closed for over a week, the Lolab gate was on Thursday afternoon thrown open for vehicular movement by the Army. The gate was opened following the protests by the people, demanding reopening of the roadway at the earliest. An official talking to KNO, said that, decision to reopen the road was taken to facilitate the general public and not to cause any inconvenience in the smooth vehicular movement since the people had complained of disrupted traffic through bypass. He said the gate will remain open for the vehicles traveling towards Lolab while as the vehicles coming from Lolab and Kalaroose towards Kupwara will have to take bypass route which will lead to smooth traffic without any disruption and problem to residents. He further said that, the road will remain open for vehicular movement from 09:00 Am in the morning to 05:00 PM in the evening including light motor vehicles and Heavy motor vehicles. However, he said that, frisking will be conducted for security purpose. The gate was closed in wake of constant security threats after the Pulwama attack in which over 45 CRPF personals were killed. The official further said that people of Kupwara have been very cooperative with the security forces so there is no intention to cause any sort of inconvenience to general public.(KNO)
