Srinagar, March 15 (KNO) : Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai Friday condemned the slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on Jamiat Ahle Hadith’s Vice President and religious scholar, Maulana Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri and shifting him to a Jammu jail. Sehrai in a statement issued to KNO said that “such undemocratic and cheap tactics could not weaken the freedom sentiment of the Kashmiri people.”
He said arresting and slapping PSA on prominent scholar is attack on religious sentiments of the people and demanded his immediate release. He said authorities trampling humanity under their boots by slapping Public Safety Act brazenly.
Sehrai said, “It is a sheer injustice and illustrates brazen display of invocation of draconian law added that cases against dozens of youth, leaders and activists are filed under this infamous law and shifted to different jails even far-flung areas is travesty of justice and fundamental rights.” Furthermore, Sehrai also condemned the arresting and slapping PSA on Mohd Shabaan Dar and Aquib Gulzar and detention of Advocate Mir Assad Ullah of Jamaat-e-Islami.
He said that “Jamaat-e-Islami is a socio-religious and welfare organisation and arresting its leadership and workers and imposing ban on it is unjustified. The Indian government and state machinery has always responded to this renewed freedom struggle through brutal mass detentions and opposing the repression of political dissent in Kashmir through military violence and illegal detentions.”
He reiterated such policy of crushing and intimidation through the might of power cannot prevent the people from demanding their fundamental political right.
Meanwhile, Sehrai deeply saddened by New Zealand terrorist act especially at a place of worship while a Friday prayer was ongoing. He termed it uncivilized act, which goes against humanistic values and took the lives of civilians. He extended his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and the people of New Zealand.(KNO)
