Baramulla, March 21 (KNO) : A civilian was injured in clashes between protesters and forces following a grenade attack by suspected militants in Main Town Sopore of Baramulla district on Thursday.
According to KNO correspondent, suspected militants hurled a grenade on CRPF stationed near SBI bank in the town, leaving Station House Officer (SHO) Dangiwacha Muddasir Ahmad and his escort personnel injured. The grenade exploded with a bang and created chaos and panic in the area.
Both the injured have been shifted to hospital for medical attention, police said, adding that the area has been cordoned off and searches were going on in the area. Pertinently, it is part of the encounter site, where forces had laid cordon.
Meanwhile, the youth took to the streets and fought pitched battle with forces by resorting to stone pelting. "Massive clashes erupted in the area and forces resorted to tear gas shelling and fired gunshots as well," locals claimed.
One civilian, identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Khan, was hit by a bullet amid intense clashes. "The injured had bullet injury in leg and hand, was shifted to Srinagar's main hospital SMHS for advanced treatment," hospital authorities told KNO. Khan is a resident of Chakrodai Khan area of Fruit Mandi Sopore.(KNO)
