Srinagar, March 29 (KNO) : Two Jaish-e-Muhammad militants were killed in a nocturnal gunfight with the government forces in Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Friday, police said.
A police spokesman told KNO that two militants were killed in the gunfight that broke out in Nowgam. He said both the slain militants belonged to Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit and are residents of Pakistna.
The gunfight broke out at Sutsoo Kalan area of Chattergam early on Friday morning after a specific intelligence input resulting in a siege around a residential house. “It was a very clean operation. There was no law and order issue and the house where the militants were hiding suffered no damage,” a police officer told KNO adding that the militants were involved in the standoff attacks or snipping attacks on the forces in Pulwama, Shopian districts and also in Nowgam area of Srinagar.
The officer said that an M4 US made carbine and an INSAS rifle was recovered from the possession of the slain militants. “In the initial exchange of fire, four soldiers sustained injures and all of them are stable,” the officer said.
After conducting the legal formalities, the DNA samples of the slain militants were preserved and the bodies buried under Islamic law in north Kashmir’s graveyard.(KNO)
