Srinagar, April 08 (KNO) : Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who left for New Delhi on Monday morning to face the questioning session by National Investigating Agency (NIA), was quizzed for whole day at the agency’s headquarters in Delhi. Official sources revealed that Mirwaiz will continue to face second round of questioning at NIA headquarters on Tuesday as well. Mirwaiz, who left his Nigeen residence along with two senior leaders of the amalgam, Professor Abdul Gani Bhat and Bilal Lone, reached NIA headquarters in Delhi on time. Senior advocate Nazir Ahmed Ronga also accompanied Mirwaiz to Delhi. Sources said that his questioning started at 11 am and remained on till 8 pm. “We are downstairs and Mirwaiz is being questioned upstairs since 11 am,” Lone told KNO. He said they have no idea whether NIA would set Mirwaiz free tonight or continue with its questioning throughout the night as well. Mirwaiz is being questioned in connection with the militancy funding case by the NIA. On Sunday, Mirwaiz after taking the feedback from all the Hurriyat leaders and also from the Awami Action Committee (AAC) at his Nigeen residence after which he announced his decision of flying to Delhi to face the NIA questioning. It was after third notice sent by the investigating agency that Mirwaiz decided to fly to Delhi. In the fresh notice, the NIA had assured the chief cleric that “his security concerns will be taken care of.” Earlier, in response to two notices sent to him by the NIA, Mirwaiz’s counsel had shot a written reply citing “hostile atmosphere in Delhi and security concerns as the main reason why his client couldn’t travel to Delhi.” Meanwhile, reliable sources told KNO that Mirwaiz will face the second round of questioning at the NIA office in Delhi on Tuesday as well. “The day long questioning of Mirwaiz into the militancy funding was over for today and will continue for tomorrow as well,” sources said.(KNO)
