Er Rashid leads rally in Srinagar, demands release of political prisoners, end to Durbar move practice | KNO

Srinagar, May 06 (KNO) : Engineer Rashid led Awami Itehad Party on Monday held a protest rally here on Monday against ‘failures of the government to provide basic eminities and against state suppression.’ The rally began from Magarmal Bagh and tried to move towards civil secretariat. According to KNO correspondent a large contingent of police thwarted the rally from moving towards the civil secretariat."We condemn the detention spree launched by government and seek immediate release of political prisoners including Yaseen Malik, Nayeem Khan, Shabir Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Fantosh, Asiya Indrabi, Zahoor Watali, Fayaz Hamid, Mushtaq Veeri, Qasim Faktoo, Masrat Alam, Sarjan Barkati and others," he said. Rashid said that New Delhi should stop ‘state terrorism and must agree to an honourable settlement to Kashmir dispute in accordance with the wishes and sacrifices of people of J&K.' "All these suppressive measures are an attempt to muzzle the voice of majority community in the state and dislodge local officers in police and civil administration, but are bound to fail. Government must restore the dignity and rights of local officers who have become like aliens in police and civil administration” he said before being detained by police. He also demanded an end to Darbar move practice and urged government to declare only one capital for the state. Er. Rasheed appealed for restoring the basic emanates like power, drinking water and roads without excuses.(KNO)
