Situation in J&K under control, local militant recruitment down; tourists arriving in large numbers, it is Pakistan’s duty to share intelligence inputs, fool-proof cover for Yatra

Srinagar, June 19 (KNO) : Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik Wednesday said that the situation in Kashmir has shown a significant improvement as the local militant recruitment has gone down while as stray incidents of violence are taking place under outside pressure similar to that of some being witnessed in United States, France and England. “In our over six months’ tenure, you can yourself see the difference as to how we tackled militancy in Kashmir. The previous regimes too had faced militancy and dealt with it, but in our tenure, the militancy infrastructure suffered a lot of damage,” Governor Malik told reporters on the side-lines of a function to introduce motor bikes for traffic cops for regulating traffic in Srinagar district, according to KNO correspondent present on the occasion. He said situation in Kashmir has changed a lot as tourists are coming here in large numbers without any fear. “I may have some threat or a fear but those coming as tourists are coming without any fear or threat and that too in large numbers. One of my friend who had come as a tourist here called me yesterday from Gulmarg saying over 25,000 tourists were present at the tourist spot,” he said. Governor said that situation on ground was very peaceful as local militant recruitment has gone down a large extent and the administration led by him will ensure that the menace of militancy is done away with from the Kashmir soil. Pertinently, according to KNO, the militants carried out two major attacks in Anantnag on June 12 followed by IED at Arihal, Pulwama that saw the death of eight security forces personnel—five CRPF men, a police officer, and two soldiers. An army vehicle was also damaged extensively in the Pulwama IED attack. Replying to a query that reports that Pakistan had shared intelligence inputs about the possible strikes by militants in Kashmir, the Governor said: “Pakistan is duty bound to share intelligence inputs with us. But it also remains to be seen that how many attacks they (Pakistan) was able to stop in its own country.” Meanwhile, 100 Motorbikes for Traffic Cops & MVD officials were inaugurated and flagged off by the Governor Malik for traffic regulation and to curb various traffic violations. The traffic cops riding the motor bikes, according to traffic officials, will make several rounds on important road links and ensure traffic violators are taken to task and the traffic regulated in a better and smooth way.(KNO)
