Kupwara, June 26 (KNO) : On eve of international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, hundreds of students enrolled in government Degree College Sogam pledged not to indulge in substance abuse. In order to raise awareness among the students, a function was organized at Degree College Sogam on Wednesday to let students know the ill-effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. According to KNO Correspondent, National Human Rights Forum Vice Chairperson, local religious clerks, College Principal and faculty members of college and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
The speakers highlighted the role of women and youth in curbing the menace, consumption and trafficking of narcotics. They urged the students to pledge that they won’t indulge in substance abuse and create awareness among masses against falling prey to drug use.
In recent past, many cases of drug abuse have surfaced in Lolab belt of the frontier district and many locals have been held along with consignments of narcotics to be sold elsewhere. Speaking on the occasion, National Human Rights Forum Vice chairperson Rehan Ahmad urged students to inform people about bad and drastic consequences of drug abuse.
The function was organized by National Human Rights Forum in collaboration with Government Degree College Sogam in which almost all the students, faculty members and members of NHRF participated. The Principal GDC Sogam Mohammad Shafi Lone was guest of honour.(KNO)
