Srinagar, July 19 (KNO) : The newly elected management committee of the Kashmir Press Club in its meeting on Friday took a strong note of a news story published in the national daily newspaper. The KP body as per a statement issued to KNO said that it was observed that the “story is baseless and full of insinuations against unnamed executive members of the club. It appears from the story that the reporter has filed it without making any efforts to contact any executive member to seek his version.  He has also not backed his story with any evidence or facts. While condemning the story as highly objectionable, the members observed that it seems to have been filed by the concerned reporter with malafide intent to bring in disrepute to the elected journalist members in particular and the entire club in general.” “This is an attempt to drag the club, which successfully conducted its first ever elections this month, into unnecessary controversy. The management committee of the club has decided to formally take up the matter with the Editor of the newspaper in New Delhi,” KPC said. A letter of protest in this regards shall be sent to the newspaper concerned. Such baseless insinuations published in a reputed newspaper like Times of India infact violate the basic standards and ethics of journalism, it added. Meanwhile, in its maiden meeting today, the management committee of Kashmir Press Club (KPC) adopted a resolution to take welfare steps for the members of the club. It was decided that a welfare fund would be created for the purpose and also a sub-committee would be setup to suggest more such welfare measures for the members. It was also decided that a separate sub-committee would be constituted to look into steps for developing the club infrastructure and create more facilities. The steps intended to be taken on priority basis include setting up of a fitness and health centre, a well-furnished restaurant, library and a separate lounge with workstations for the journalist members. In this regards the club solicits cooperation of the administration and concerned departments for improving the basic infrastructure in the premises, the statement reads. It was further decided to constitute an academic sub-committee for organising/coordinating workshops, trainings, guest lecturers for the journalists both from English and vernacular media for their capacity building. The committee also decided to dedicate a separate lounge inside the club for the female journalists with an aim to promote and encourage their participation in the club activities.(KNO)
