Two boys drown in Jhelum in Sumbal, one rescued, another still missing | KNO

Bandipora, July 24 (KNO) : A boy drowned while another was rescued by locals after they slipped into river Jehlum in Shilwat area of Sumbal in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday. Eye witnesses told KNO that two boys drowned in river Jhelum after they slipped into river Jehlum. Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched by local volunteers and police to retrieve their bodies. “However, only one boy was rescued so far,” the locals told KNO. A senior police officer told KNO that the two minor boys identified as Mohammad Kafeel (08) and Mohammad Shafiq (14), both residents of Kalakote Rajouri area of Jammu slipped into the river while they were playing on its banks. “Kafeel was saved by the locals and police while Shafiq is still missing,” the official told KNO. He said the search for another drowned boy is still underway. (KNO)
