Srinagar, July 24 (KNO) : Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Wednesday urged the government to address the mounting crises of domestic violence in Kashmir as the issue has taken the catastrophic shape in the society.
While interacting with various delegations of Wednesday, Kadfeen in a statement issued to KNO termed the spike in domestic violence deeply worrying and has underlined the need of government intervention to address the crises sans any delay.
“Gone are the days when there used to be no societal acceptance to any domestic violence. It has now become a trend and is taking shape of a volcano. It can consume our values and our ethos if we do not wake up at an earliest,” said Kadfeen.
According to him the government must strengthen the institutions that have been tasked for women safety and security. “What fun is of these institutions if there is no positive change on the ground. Also, as police is already doing an appreciable job in eradicating the drug menace, its services can well be used for addressing the issue of rising cases of domestic violence,” said Kadfeen.
He added that 1,170 cases of domestic violence, abetment to suicide, cruelty by husbands or in-laws were registered by police in the past two years in Jammu and Kashmir and that police also arrested 2,818 persons for such crimes.(KNO)
