Srinagar, August 01 (KNO): Awami National Conference (ANC) president Begum Khalida Shah on Thursday termed the campaign launched by National Investigation Agency (NIA) against the political leadership of Valley as ‘Childish’. She said there are surely vested interests in it working behind the curtains. According to a statement issued to KNO, she warned that: ‘Childish program to quiz political leadership by investigating agencies for political vendetta will have dangerous consequences’. “Even though, the questioning of Dr Farooq Abdullah, by Enforcement Directorate, was done in an old case pertaining to embezzlement in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Academy. I want to state it clearly that Dr Farooq has always stood against corruption and has never been found involved in any such practice,” Begum Khalida Shah said in her statement. She, however, reiterated that there is no harm in investigation in whopping increase of wealth of political leaders, if anyone thinks so. “But the investigation should not be guided by ill intentions and vested interests and political vendetta must not play its part in such probe,” she cautioned. She also said that casting doubts on all the leaders is not a right thing to do and every leader must not be considered corrupt. “There are genuine legal ways of investigation by which individuals are not made to go through character assassinations,” she said, adding that every individual is innocent until proven guilty. “Otherwise without any ounce of proof, if any individual’s integrity and honor is compromised, it itself is a crime and one who has perpetrated it has also indulged himself into a crime,” Begum Khalida Shah said.(KNO)
