Kupwara, August 03 (KNO) : A 40-year-old man died on Saturday afternoon after an unexploded shell went off within the water body near Sadhna Top, causing immense tense among the citizens. Officials told KNO that a man identified as Shabir Ahmad Pathan, son of Abdul Qayoom suffered grave injuries after an unexploded shell went off near Sadhna top when he was on way downwards along with domestic animals near the water body at Nasta chan gali along Sadhna top.  Sources said that Shabir was evacuated to nearby Army unit where a doctor of the concerned unit attended him and declared him dead on arrival. However, the officials told KNO that the shell apparently seems to have been fired from other side of the border in recent days and may have missed the target. As per relatives of slain, Shabir was living along with family members and other neighbours in makeshift houses in the hills for over two months now and had came down this morning to feed water to domestic animals they take along themselves during summers. He was accompanied by some other locals. Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar said that, “I have also received a communication regarding the death of one due to explosion of shell. We are getting more details and will be shared later.”(KNO)
