Srinagar, Sep 28: A day after United Nation General Assembly session, a massive security build-up has been put in place across Kashmir with a tight vigil coupled with intensified frisking of commuters being conducted on all the highways in Valley. According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), top officials said that all the vital security installations including airports, police headquarters, army installations and other security forces offices are on a “high alert.” A senior security expert revealed that though all the security agencies were on high alert mode but with the “hate speech” at UNGA by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, there are high apprehensions that militants may carry out some major strikes on the vital installations of security forces in Kashmir. “So we are maintaining highest level of alert and a close watch is being maintained on every suspect,” the official said, wishing not to be named. He said that all the camps, installations and airports are on high alert mode to deal with any possible threat or eventuality. “Intelligence inputs suggest that militants may target security installations to mark their presence,” the official said. Another official told KNO that night patrolling has been started within the two-kilometer radius of security forces camps in South, North and Central Kashmir besides area domination exercises are being conducted on regular basis. About the intense frisking operations started by the security forces on all vital highways in Kashmir including Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Baramulla highway, the official said that it was a routine exercise to keep a close watch on the suspects. The fresh wave of frisking has irked the commuters across Kashmir. “I travel almost every day from Pampore to Lal Chowk in my private car. I am stopped first at Pampore near Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI), then at Sempora and again at the mausoleum of famous poet Mehjoor at Athwajan. The frisking of vehicles was intensified from Friday onwards when UNGA session was on,” Imtiyaz Rashid told KNO. Many other commuters expressed similar concerns. They said that security forces personnel ask them to show identity cards and to get down from their vehicles till their cars are searched properly. Eye-witnesses said that frisking of vehicles is being conducted on Srinagar-Baramulla highway also where almost every vehicle is stopped at various locations. (KNO)
