Srinagar, Oct 14 (KNO): The authorities have heightened security across the Srinagar following the twin grenade attacks on Saturday and Sunday in Hari Singh High Street (HSHS) and Chadoora area of Budgam district respectively. At least eight persons including a woman were wounded in a grenade attack at HSHS on Saturday while no loss of life was reported in another grenade attack in Chadoora. Witnesses told the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a number of check points were made in Srinagar areas today where the police and paramilitary troopers were checking all kinds of vehicles including four-wheelers, Auto-rickshaws and others. The vehicles as per the witnesses that police were also checking the documents of the vehicles while many of the motorbikes have been seized. Police and paramilitary troopers were also deployed in sensitive areas of Srinagar especially around Lal Chowk where the street vendors had set up their stalls, eye-witnesses said. They added that a number of bunkers have been established in Srinagar City in last few weeks. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. Haseeb Mughal told KNO that they are always on alert mode and frisking of vehicles was a routine exercise to keep forces on alert mode. He also added that 200 bikes have been seized across Srinagar today, adding that only a dozen bunkers were established across Srinagar to ensure hassle free movement of people. “All these bunkers are temporary and will be removed soon after situation improves,” Mughal said. About HSHS attack on Saturday, he said that there was no breakthrough so far and the attack was being probed thoroughly (KNO).
