Seven more test positive for COVID-19 in J&K; toll rises to 62 | KNO

Of total cases, 50 from Kashmir, 12 from Jammu, 2000 people with contact history traced, every one among them to be tested, have robust contact tracing mechanism: Rohit Kansal

Srinagar, Apr 01 (KNO): Seven more fresh Covid-19 cases were detected in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, prompting the administration to further tighten the restrictions on the movement of people. According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), seven more patients have tested positive for the coronavirus taking the total number of positive cases in J&K to 62. "Covid-19 cases have risen to 62 with 58 active cases in J&K. Out of 62 active cases, 50 cases have been reported in Kashmir division, 12 are in Jammu. 17041 people are under active surveillance,” said government spokesman Rohit Kansal in a press conference at Jammu With these fresh cases, the total number of patients tested positive for the deadly virus in Jammu and Kashmir has risen to 62. While two among them died, two have recovered so far. Kansal said that they have a robust contact system in place and 2000 people with contact history have been traced and each one of them will be tested. “I appeal people to cooperate. The contact tracing exercise will cause some inconvenience, but it is to prevent the further spread of the virus,” Kansal said as per KNO. “Our testing facilities are up to date and we have four testing facilities in J&K and our testing average is 77.5 per million, highest in India next Kerala. He said that there was no dearth of essentials including LPG, medicines and fruit as hundreds of trucks laden with essentials have crossed Lakhanpur today. Pertinently, a woman from the old-city Khanyar area of Srinagar, who became the first case of the Covid-19 disease in Kashmir, has now tested negative for the novel disease. Nodal officer for coronavirus at SKIMS G H Yatoo said that out of the reports received today one is positive and is undergoing treatment at the Institute. Dr Tabasum, who is the deputy medical superintendent JLNM hospital Srinagar said that no patient with symptoms of coronavirus was received today. “We received reports of 27 cases today, all of them were negative and still result of many cases is still awaited,” she said. As per officials in district Kulgam, 152 persons are in home quarantine while as 46 persons are under hospital quarantine. Medical superintendent district hospital Pulwama Dr Jameel Ahmad Mir said that samples of five more persons were taken today at hospital and have been sent for testing.—(KNO)
