Ganderbal, May 19 (KNO): The inhabitants of Ganderbal have castigated the Power Development Department (PDD) and Municipal Committee for failing to repair the defunct streetlights in the town since past one year. The residents told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the streetlights were installed by the PDD a year ago but they are yet to be made functional. “Most of the streetlights installed in the lanes are lying defunct due to which the pedestrians, particularly the women, children and elders are facing huge inconvenience after the dusk,” they said. Locals said that some of the lights have gone out of order and the concerned GMC officials have failed to replace them. “Streetlights in our town are not working for the past many months yet nobody from the GMC has visited the area to replace it.” “As many as 35 streetlights are lying in the store. However, the authorities aren’t installing them in our areas for the reasons better known to them,” they said. They urged the officials of PDD and municipal committee to install these lights at an earliest. Meanwhile, chairman municipal committee, Altaf Lone said that they will solve the issue as soon as possible—(KNO)
