Shopian, May 28 (KNO): Unscheduled power cuts in summer season is making the life of people living in various villages miserable in South Kashmir’s Shopian district as Power Development Department (PDD) continues to stick to winter schedule. Residents from several areas of the district have alleged that their villages are facing power cuts even though it is summer time in Kashmir. Locals of Shopian villages told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the PDD has left them in lurch as there has been no change in power curtailment schedule despite the fact summer has already set in. “We receive two to three hours of power supply followed by 4 to 6 hours shutdown,” they said, adding that “It’s really irritating.” Residents of Kumdallan, Nadigam, Kutpora, Lonepora, Narsoo, Tachloo, Manzimpora, Check Sidiq Khan, Tulran, Kharwara, Nildor, Abalwan, Nagishern, Kachdoora, Hermain, Mantribugh, Hanipora, Gahind, Chakoora, DK Pora, Landoora and adjacent areas have expressed strong resentment over irregular power supply in the area and appealed authorities to look into the issue. They alleged that even in summer season people are receiving a power supply as per winter schedule. The locals appealed the authorities to come to their rescue and ensure that regular power supply is maintained in all the villages. “Basically those areas which are being fed through Landoora receiving station are witnessing frequent power cuts,” said Nawaz Ahmad, a local resident of Meemander village. They said that the issue was raised with the concerned officers many a times but so far nothing has been done on ground. The locals have now requested Chief Engineer Power Development Department to look into the matter and redress the issue at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief. Despite repeated attempts executive engineer PDD division Shopian wasn't available for comment—(KNO)
