Kulgam tops list of active positive cases, 264 out of 300 patients undergoing treatment | KNO

‘32 recover, 4 died due to COVID, 43 areas declared red zones’

Kulgam, June 01 (KNO): Kulgam, a south Kashmir district has topped the list of active cases of Novel Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir with officials informing that 264 active positive patients are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals. However, four among the total 300 positive cases have died to due to the virus so far. As per the details available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), 300 positive cases were detected from the district so far, adding that 32 among them have recovered and have been discharged from different hospitals. “Out of 300 positive cases, 210 are having travel history,” officials said. The first positive case from the district was reported in March this year, officials said, adding that the first patient who was tested positive recovered and was discharged from the District Hospital Kulgam. Officials said that the number of positive cases from the district remained low in the beginning, but soon after the people from outside Jammu and Kashmir were evacuated, the number started increasing rapidly. Officials in Kulgam told KNO that most of the travelers who were tested positive here were evacuated from Delhi. “The remaining positive cases among the travelers have returned home from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bangladesh,” they said. District Magistrate (DM) Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat told KNO that the increasing number of travellers tested positive was due to the aggressive testing. “Around 6,500 people from the district have returned home while all the travellers were tested for the Coronavirus,” he said, adding that the district has also ensured strict quarantine routines for the people returning home. “We are in recovery phase now and hopefully more patients will recover in coming days,” he said while appealing people to take all precautions and follow advisories in letter and spirit. Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam, Dr. Fazil Ali Kochak told KNO that at least 43 areas have been declared Red Zone in Kulgam district so far in order to prevent the deadly Coronavirus from spreading –(KNO)
