Intensifying the crackdown against traffic rule violators on Chenab valley roads , the Traffic Police on Mondayfined three dozens of vehicles in different areas on Doda Kishtwar road here today . Young Dy SP Traffic Doda Zohaib Patigaroo said drivers and commuters had to adapt to “certain measures” to ensure safety and hassle-free traffic movement.The measures include wearing a helmet, avoid overtaking, control speeding, avoid triple riding, wear seat belts, avoid driving on the wrong side, avoid use of tinted glasses, halting vehicles on pedestrian crossings and avoiding using cellphones while driving.Dy SP traffic Police said that they have prepared a list of chronic traffic violators of passenger vehicles including Tata sumos, Taveras, PSVS involved in multi-traffic offences on Doda Kishtwar and Bhaderwah vis over- speeding dangerous driving, using mobile phone while driving a vehicle, driving vehicle in the inebriated state which invites cancellation/ suspension of both permits and driving licenses under the relevant provisions of the MV Act. He said the road accident and traffic congestions are human tragedies. These are avoidable by adopting preventive steps and to infuse voluntary compliance to traffic rules and signs,” it adds.He urged people to obey the traffic rules and cooperate with the police for the smooth and hassle-free movement of traffic on roads.He informed that crackdown against violators launched by the traffic police is underway for the past several months but now it intensified further avoid road accidents .He also expressed his dismay over the fact that traffic police had to teach young motorcyclists the manners which was the prime responsibility of their parents. “Parents of these youths should be ashamed of this nonsense driving by their children. Traffic police is doing what they (parents) should have done at home,” Zohaib lamented.He vowed that from the next week a similar kind of drive will be launched against Tipper and Sumo drivers whose vehicles will be ceased for rash driving.He said ,“The drive will continue in future also. The violators will be dealt strictly, especially those who travel without helmets or resort to triple driving and rash driving”, he said. “We have set up special squads for surprise checking on different roads to ensure overall coverage.”He also called upon parents to understand their duty towards their children and prevent them from resorting to rash driving and illegal means.He also said the main causes of increasing road accidents are use of mobile phones, over speeding, rash and negligent driving.
