Bandipora, Nov 25 (KNO): Wife of former Minister of State and former legislator from north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Usman Majeed on Wednesday filed her nomination papers from Bandipora-A Panchayat block to contest the forthcoming District Development Council (DDC) elections.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Firdousa Akhtar, wife of Usman Majeed filed her nomination papers from Garoora Panchayat halqa to contest the polls as the candidate of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party headed by Syed Altaf Bukhari.
Pertinently, Usman Majeed is vice-president of the JKAP after he parted ways with the Congress last year.
Firdousa will be contesting the DDC polls from Bandipora-A Panchayat block that is going for polls on December 13 during the eight-phased DDC elections across Jammu and Kashmir.
She will be contesting against the PAGD candidate of Awami National Conference (ANC), Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat, who also filed his nomination papers from Bandipora-A block today. As part of the seat-sharing pact, PAGD has field ANC candidates from this block.
Meanwhile, the wife of former MLA and senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Nizam-ud-din Bhat’s nephew also filed her nomination papers today to contest DDC election from Bandipora-B panchayat block.
Kaunser Shafeeq, wife of Advocate Shafeeq Ahmad Bhat will be contesting the polls for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Bandipora-B block that is also going to polls on December 13. She has filed her nomination papers from Watapora Panchayat Halqa.
As part of the seat-sharing pact, PAGD has fielded PDP candidates from this block that is reserved for the woman candidate.
An official said that the last date for withdrawing nomination papers for Bandipora-A and B Panchayat block is December 01 and it will be going to polls on December 13—(KNO)
