Covid-19: J&K reports highest cases in a single day as 33 test positive | KNO

Srinagar, Apr 08 (KNO): The number of Covid-19 positive cases continues to show surge in J&K as 33 more cases were tested positive on Wednesday, highest ever since the pandemic griped the Union Territory on March 18. The total number of positive cases in the UT have gone up to 158 of which 122 are from Kashmir and 27 from Jammu. Of the 33 cases that were tested positive today, 30 are from Kashmir and only three from Jammu.

"Now the total number of active cases in J&K stands at 149 including 122 from Kashmir division and 27 in Jammu division and good news is that two more patients have recovered and have been discharged from SKIMS," said government spokesman Rohit Kansal in a tweet, as per wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Nineteen cases were tested positive at CD hospital Srinagar and 11 at SKIMS, officials said, adding that the persons, who have been tested positive today in Kashmir are from Natipora Srinagar 02, Bemina 03, Baramulla 06, Bandipora 07, Kupwara 03, Pulwama 02, Shopian 06 while as Kulgam district witnessed first positive case of COVID-19. The officials said that a few among the new cases have travel history of outside India while as others have contact history of already positive patients. “14 news cases today, 11 in Kashmir, 3 in Jammu.

Good news too: 2 patients discharges from SKIMS (hospital),” tweeted J&K Govt spokesman Rohit Kansal on Wednesday afternoon. He later tweeted "Just now 19 more cases test positive in Kashmir Division- details follow". Nodal Officer for Coronavirus at SKIMS, Dr G H Yatoo told KNO that today among the reports received today 11 came positive besides that more than a dozen patients with symptoms of covid-19 were admitted at SKIMS today. He further added that two patients one each from Baramulla and Bandipora were discharged after they recovered from the deadly virus.

Dr Tabasum Deputy Medical Superintendent JLNM hospital Srinagar told KNO that 12 positive patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital who all have been doing well and recovering. She said that samples of five positive patients have been taken for re-confirmation whose reports are expected to come tomorrow. Doctors at CD hospital told KNO that among the reports received today, 19 were tested positive.

They added that they are conducting re-confirming tests of about one dozen patients and if their repeated tests will come negative they will be shifted to quarantine centres. "GMC Anantnag is designated facility for taking samples. To make it absolutely clear, the 7 cases reported positive today were only sent by GMC Anantnag but these patients belong to Shopian and Kulgam. Our district continues to be free so far.
