Damaged in 2017, authorities fail to repair only connectivity, residents suffer | KNO

Baramulla, April 20 (KNO) : Residents of Naganari, Boniyar area of district Baramulla here have expressed resentment authorities for failing to reconstruct the only connecting pathway in the area, which was damaged two years ago. Constructed and damaged by the flood in the year 2017, the only bridge that connects the area with rest of the areas including Primary Health Center, Post Office and several private schools and government higher secondary School is in shambles. The residents told KNO they are forced to walk through the damaged bridge since it is risky for them especially for women and school going children. “The bridge was damaged years back after couple of months it was constructed, since then we risk our lives while Walk through since the water level from the channel remains high throughout the year,” Ishfaq Ahmad, of the residents and village head (Sarpanch) told KNO. Ahmad said that the bridge was constructed by I&FC department, however was damaged by the flood in the water channel. The residents allege that the authorities put them and lives of hundreds of children in danger by not constructing the bridge from the only way in the area.They told KNO that they have many a times appealed to the concerned authorities regarding their misery and problems they face by each passing day but they Administration seem not even nodding their heads. “We have appealed to DC Baramulla by an application nearly a year back but since then no response came through,” they told KNO. One of the students told KNO that they fear risk of death while walking through the damaged bridge, since they have no other way to reach school. “Not only students but inhabitants face everyday this risk of life, in fact couple of times children fell from other side and were injured,” he told KNO Executive Engineer R&B Boniyar Imtiyaz Ahmad told KNO that they have taken up the matter however there is the lack of funds for these works since the Block Development department has to take up these works. “We have put their bridge construction in the district sector and hopefully the needful would be done accordingly,” he told KNO. Despite several attempts, DC Baramulla could not be reached for his comments.(KNO)
