Kulgam Encounter : People throng to encounter site in a bid to help militants escape, clashes erupt | KNO

Kulgam, February 10 (KNO) : Amid fierce firefight between militants and forces in Kellam Kulgam here, massive protests erupted in the village Local sources told KNO that as soon as the gun shots were heard in the area, people marched towards gunfight site and engaged forces in pitched battle by throwing stones and bricks on them. “Despite strict restrictions, locals have gathered near encounter site to rescue militants,’’ locals told KNO. They claimed that forces resorted to aerial firing and use pellet guns to disperse protesters. People have been thronging to gunfight sites to engage forces in protests giving militants opportunity to give them a slip. Police has asked people to remain away from ground zeroes as in recent past civilians were killed during these gunfights and many militants were successful in escaping as well. Recently, on Feb 6 gunfight broke out between militants and forces in Chakoora area of Pulwama district. LeT’s district commander was killed in the shootout, but protests quickly erupted in the area and forces had to use tear gas to disperse the protesting youth.Police sources later told KNO said that one militant had escaped during the chaos.(KNO)
