Locals protest against Army for thrashing youth in Rafiabad | KNO

Sopore, April 13 (KNO) : Protest erupted in Laser village of Rafiabad against Army of 32 RR Rafiabad after the troopers thrashed two youth allegedly for not casting their votes. Reports reaching to KNO said that a large number of people of Laser village took to the streets this afternoon and staged a protest against the Army for thrashing two boys, Bilal Ahmad Rather and Tariq Ahmad Rather. Both were shifted to a hospital for further treatment, reports said. Locals said that Army men stopped their vehicle and checked their fingers and questioned them why they didn’t not votes in elections. They started beating them, resulting in injuries to them. This triggered protests and locals blocked the Baramulla-Kupwara road. Meanwhile, a police team reached the spot but the protest was going on. Army officer however refuted the allegations, terming it as ‘baseless’. Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore Javid Iqbal told KNO that Army men stopped their car but two youth responded ‘aggressively’ following which Army thrashed them. However, he said that they have started investigation in this regard.(KNO)
