Srinagar, December 04 (KNO) : Muslim League on Tuesday strongly condemned the heavy deployment of forces, nocturnal raids and arrest spree in almost all the villages, towns and localities of Kashmir especially in southern districts of Kashmir. “Southern districts are witnessing a reign of terror and fresh arrests wherein men, women children irrespective of their age are being frightened and harassed by police, SOG and other forces who occupy roads, orchards, lanes, houses etc,” ML spokesman Saja Ayoubi said in a statement issued to KNO. He said that one of the direct impacts of presence of troops in large number in these southern districts has been on the education of children as hundreds of schools and educational institutions, houses, roads leading towards these educational institutions are occupied on daily basis by these forces due which many parents prefer to keep their children inside their homes only because these Indian forces are known for the human rights violations, killings and blinding people of Kashmir. Terming the ongoing spree of arrests and nocturnal raids as ‘most undemocratic’, ML spokesman said that “in southern districts of Kashmir a spree of arrests is going on unabated and thousands of young and old are being put behind bars and tortured physically and mentally.” He expressed deep concern over prevailing “horrendous” situation in the southern districts, saying that “the authorities have virtually turned these districts into a battle field.”Condemning the ‘excessive use of power’ against the civilians by the forces in south Kashmir particularly in Khudwani, Rampora, Redwani, Qaimoh, Kelam, Gufabal, Rampora, Havoora, Bogam, Pulwama, Kakpora, Lilhara, Narbal, Begham bagh, Islamabad, Kokernag, Chi, Tral, Anchidora, Seer Hamdan etc on the pretext of cordon and search operations, Ayoubi said that “common people are deliberately targeted and victimized by the men in uniform.”(KNO)
