Srinagar, February 08 (KNO) : The state government today came to the rescue of GATE aspirants of Kashmir by making free of cost provision to airlift them to Jammu for appearing in the second phase of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) scheduled on February 09 and 10 and other examinations. On the Directions of Governor Satya Pal Malik, a special flight was operated today in which 180 out of 360 GATE aspirants, who had registered with assistant commissioner in the office of Divisional Commissioner, were airlifted from Srinagar to Jammu free of cost. In view of heavy snowfall and blockade of national highway, a large number of GATE aspirants had yesterday approached Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan seeking airlifting from Srinagar to Jammu. GATE is an All-India examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board -GATE, Department of Education in Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD). The government will arrange another flight for left out aspirants so that they don’t miss their opportunity to appear in the examinations. Meanwhile, the aspirants expressed their gratitude to the Governor S P Malik, Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Chief Secretary BVR Subramanyam and Divisional Commissioner Khurshid Ahmad Ganai for personally intervening at this crucial juncture and arranging free air service for them. They said that the noble arrangement by the administration has saved hundreds of careers.(KNO)
