Srinagar, December 03 (KNO) : Following the call given by Joint resistance Leadership (JRL), Street vendors of city center Lal Chowk on Monday carried out a protest rally against what they termed human rights violations in Kashmir. JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had urged people to observe Human Rights week and protest over ‘unabated HR violations’.Dozens of streets vendors marched from Mekkah market Lal Chowk to Press Enclave here amid sloganeering. They urged people to lit candles and torch lights after evening prayers during this week to highlight ‘grave’ human rights violations in the valley. “We appeal to the people of Kashmir to lit candles and torchlights outside mosques in their localities, towns and villages to highlight grave human rights violations at the international level and turn the attention of world community towards them,” said the JRL spokesman. JRL also urged members of civil society, Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce, Traders Federation, Employees Unions, social and political organizations, religious groups, and transporters to stage a protest at their own level each day from December 3 to December 9. Notably, in view of Human Rights week, Authorities have placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention while Malik is under detention since Nov 19 in Police station Maisuma. However, Geelani continued to remain under house detention for almost eight years and was recently allowed to move from his Hyderpora residence to Sopore to meet his daughter on demise of his son-in-law.(KNO)
