Three notorious drug peddlers booked under PSA in Srinagar | KNO

Srinagar, June 01 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir police Monday booked three notorious drug peddlers under public safety act (PSA) in Srinagar and lodged them in different district jails within the valley. Officials said two of the notorious drug peddlers booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) were lodged at district jail Baramulla and the other at Kupwara in pursuance to detention warrants issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), at least 30 cases have been registered and 53 persons have been arrested so far under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in the current year. A police official said Srinagar police is committed to make the entire city drug free, for that it's making all efforts in breaking the chain of drug peddling, adding that in recent action three notorious drug peddlers have been detained under relevant provisions of law. He said the trio were detained under public safety act (PSA), a dossier of which was issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. A police spokesperson said that, "District Police Srinagar being a responsible stakeholder working for overall progress of the society and in its endeavours to curb the menace of Drugs in City Srinagar, has registered 81 cases regarding Narcotic and Psychotropic substances in year 2019 and arrested as many as 126 persons involved in these cases, besides recovered large cache of different types of drugs and narcotic substances". He said, "During current year, 30 cases have been registered and 53 persons have been arrested under punitive laws so far in the NDPS law. The drug menace is causing irreparable damage to the society especially to the wellbeing of the youth. The menace of drug abuse has taken shape of a serious challenge on national and international level. It has also been witnessed that drug addicts subsequently have been found indulging in other crimes, which makes the addiction more worse a crime". Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District Srinagar, Dr. Haseeb Mughal (JKPS) has expressed that the campaign against drug dealers and drug peddlers would be intensified in coming weeks and Narcotic & Psychotropic substances consumption is spreading like a cancer within the society, will be eradicated from the society by the close coordination of the responsible members of the society. He said: "The society must come forward in identifying the drug dealers and peddlers so that the drug menace is eradicated from the City. The said action of District Police Srinagar has been applauded and hailed in social and religious circles of District Srinagar". A police official identified the trio as Nisar Ahmad Sheikh son of Lt Habibullah Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Colony Kani, Bashir Ahmad Baht son of Gh Rasool Baht, a resident of Barbarshah and Rayees Ahmad hakak son of Fayaz Ahmad hakak a resident of Gulbarg Colony Zakura—(KNO)
